V Australia touches down from South Africa

Melbourne Airport welcomed announcement of new connection. Low cost airline V Australia operated yesterday its inaugural flight from Johannesburg. The service from Melbourne to Johannesburg will be available twice a week.

Johannesburg is V Australia’s third international destination from Melbourne, with services to Los Angeles and Phuket both launched in December last year. That same month Melbourne Airport also welcomed inaugural flights from Qatar Airways and Viva Macau. The airport now boasts 26 international airlines.

When can I check-in?
Anybody who bought and printed out his e-tickets (electronic airline tickets) irrespective of whether he/she travels with hold baggage or carry on baggage only can check-in on-line. One can usually check-in from 30 to 1 hour prior to departure depending on which carrier he/she chose to fly with.

Tips & tricks: mobile check-in

Today’s common way of making things easier, on-line check-in, has got its even more dynamic successor – mobile check-in. Sound names like KLM or Air France belong among those who started working on mobile check-in project first, closely followed by German airlines Lufthansa.

When can you use mobile check-in?

  • The service is mainly available for high-resolution phone screens with Internet access (it includes so called smart phones like iPhone, Blackberry or PDA).
  • You can use the service even though you did not buy your ticket on-line.
  • Mobile check-in is available namely on direct flights for those who travel alone.
  • You can check-in with your mobile from 30 to 1 hour prior to departure when traveling with Air France or KLM, for travel with Lufthansa you can do so from 23 hours before departure.

    Etihad secures additional flights to Australia

    The national airline of the United Arab Emirates Etihad Airways has secured seven additional weekly flight frequencies from its base in Abu Dhabi to Australia. The seven flights can be operated to any gateway in Australia which includes Etihad’s current destinations of Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.

    Etihad currently flies 21 times a week between Abu Dhabi and Australia. This includes 11 flights to Sydney, seven to Melbourne and three to Brisbane. The new flight slots will available from March 2011.

    Virgin Atlantic: benefits for selected airlines’ frequent flyers

    February 2nd, 2010

    Long haul airline Virgin Atlantic has announced that Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Gold and Silver Cardmembers will now be able to receive additional benefits when flying on V Australia and Virgin Blue.

    The airlines’ frequent flyer programs first joined forces in July last year when they launched an agreement which allowed Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club Members and V Australia’s Velocity Members to earn Velocity Points or Flying Club Miles on both V Australia and Virgin Atlantic flights.

    Lie-down in economy now a reality with Air New Zealand

    Air New Zealand will transform international air travel later this year when it introduces revolutionary, Kiwi designed lie-flat economy and ground breaking premium economy seats, together with enhanced comforts for those wanting the ultimate in luxurious Business Premier travel.

    The airline today revealed its prototype designs in a full-scale Boeing 777-300 cabin inside its design innovation centre in Auckland’s CBD, just a few hundred metres from its head office. Chief Executive Officer Rob Fyfe says when the airline takes delivery of its first new Boeing 777-300 ER in November this year it will redefine the long haul travel experience and set a benchmark for competitors to follow.

    AirAsia introduces self check-in

    Low cost airline AirAsia decided to introduce new inclusion of its Web and Self Check-In service. These new self check-in kiosk facilities are currently in place at the LCCT airport and selected regional airports, providing guests with a quicker and more convenient way of checking-in. For added comfort and convenience, guests could also utilize our web-based check-in service.

    This major initiative is part of the airline’s on-going mission of using the ICT forefront to exploit technology and practice cost efficiency. By adopting a cost effective service and liberating guests traveling experience, this innovative service will also avoid airport congestions, long queues and reduce waiting time at no extra cost. However, guests could still opt to check-in the conventional way at AirAsia’s check-in counters at the airport with our fun and friendly guest service staff.

    Virgin Blue to launch flights to Christmas and Cocos Islands

    January 19th, 2010

    Low cost airline Virgin Blue will celebrate ‘Christmas in April’ this year as the airline confirms its intention to commence non-stop services between Perth and Christmas and Cocos (Keeling Islands) with fares from as little as $464 one-way on the net.

    The three weekly flights from Perth to Christmas Island are set for take-off on Thursday April 1, 2010 with services between Perth and Cocos Island commencing shortly after on Saturday April 3. Flights between Cocos Island and Christmas Island will also commence on April 3.

Spirit will give $75 USD to Yéle for every qualified person who applies for and uses a FREE SPIRIT™ MasterCard, up to $10 million USD. Simply visit www.spiritair.com/yele for complete details. Customers simply open an account by Monday, January 25, 2010, use it once by March 31, 2010, and Spirit gives $75 USD to Yéle.

    As announced earlier, Spirit is also giving 5,000 FREE Spirit miles to everyone who donates at least $5 to Yéle Haiti, the Red Cross or UNICEF, enough miles for a free flight. The ultra low cost airline will give up to a billion miles.
