Singapore Airlines to expand to South-America

Good news for the long-haul flights enthusiasts – the renowned carrier Singapore Airlines announced it would launch a new route to the fascinating and remote Sao Paolo.

The flights from Singapore to Sao Paolo will be in operation as of March 28, 2011. The carrier will operate the new route thrice a week via Barcelona. As for the aircraft, the route will be served with Boeing 777-00ER.

New services: low-cost and traditional carriers

In spite of the lingering crisis with all its implications for the world economy, the aviation sector does not cease to expand. Year 2011 will see the opening of quite a number of new routes and services. Let us take a quick look at just some of them.

The Rome-based carrier Alitalia announced the opening of two direct services from its base at Florence Airport. The services are Florence – Amsterdam and Florence – Catania. Both are to be in operation as of March 27, 2011 and both are available for purchase now.

Etihad: New direct service to Bangalore

The middle-eastern Abu Dhabi-based carrier Etihad Airways has proven that India is among its important markets by launching a direct service to its eighth Indian destination and the third most populous Indian city – Bangalore.

The new Abu Dhabi – Bangalore service is operated four times a week and the frequency will be increased to daily flights as of March 25, 2011.

Jet Airways: Expanding its international route network

Jet Airways announced announced it would add a new service to its route network. The service in question will connect Milan Malpensa and New Delhi and will be the 24th international destination served by this big Indian carrier.

The flights will be in operation daily as of December 5, 2010 and it is worth mentioning that this will be the only direct flights connecting the fancy Milan and Delhi so far.

Given how dynamic the Indian market is, both parts expect a great deal from this new development. The coming months will show the volume of traffic from and to Airport Delhi.

Hawaiian Airlines: the inaugural flight to Haneda

In this post we would like to mention an airline which does not appear on our blog too often – Hawaiian Airlines. The reason is that the inaugural flight connecting Honolulu and Tokyo took place.

The maiden flight was celebrated with pomp. The festivities included among others a Japanese dance performance and traditional Hawaiian blessing.

The flights on this route will be adapted to the expectations of Japanese travellers both in terms of food and in-flight entertainment.

The CEO of Hawaiian Airlines pins his hopes on the expansion to the Asian markets which hangs together with adding of new aircraft to the carrier’s fleet. The next step in strengthening of Hawaiian Ailines’ presence in the region is Seoul Airport.

Qatar Airways: the 100th destination in 2011

The Doha-based Qatar Airways, one of the most renowned and awarded carriers, is going to reach the magical number of 100 destinations on its route network. It is Aleppo – an ancient city in Syria, on the List of World Heritage Sites – that will have the honourable status as the 100th destination served by Qatar.

The Doha – Aleppo service will be in operation as of April 6, 2011 and is much anticipated as it is believe to boost both the tourist industry and the business relations with Syria.

Naturally, this dynamically growing carrier does not stop here and we can expect more destinations to be announced. One of them will be Nice – the fifth most populous city in France. The route will start November 24, 2010.

Qatar Airways increases its Vietnam services

The Doha-based Qatar Airways strengthens its position on the Vietnamese market by both increasing the frequency of the existing services and opening new connections.

The new scheduled service connects Doha and Hanoi whereas the number of flights to Airport Tansonnhat International has been increased. It can be mentioned that Qatar is the solely
5-star airline to fly on these routes.

The number of flights Qatar Airways operates to Vietnam is now three times bigger than before which reflects the ever increasing interest in this Asian country as both a tourist destination and a business partner as well as the strengthening of the relationship between the two countries.

The ambitions on the part of Qatar Airway reach further than that – the number of destinations served by this carrier is due to increase to 120 by 2013.

Air Asia X to launch direct flights to Christchurch

Air Asia X, an associate company of AirAsia the most dynamic low-cost airline it the region, expands its route network with a direct service from Airport Kuala Lumpur to Airport Christchurch.

It took two years to develop the project and get finalized this deal which both parts describe as «a win-win situation» for both the entire tourisme industry in the southern part of New Zealand and the carrier. At a rough estimate the new service may bring up to 70,000 tourists a year.

Over time we may expect a constant increase in the number of routes operated by this dynatic Asian carrier. The plans are to launch new services to: New York, Jeddah as well as a few destinations in China.
