Virgin America announced network expansion plans that position the new airline for strong growth in 2010 and beyond. Airline will serve Orlando International Airport (MCO) with daily nonstop flights from both Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) beginning August 19, 2010.
Additionally, the airline announces its intent to serve Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) with daily flights from both LAX and SFO as early as June 2010.

Melbourne Airport welcomed announcement of new connection. Low cost airline V Australia operated yesterday its inaugural flight from Johannesburg. The service from Melbourne to Johannesburg will be available twice a week.
Johannesburg is V Australia’s third international destination from Melbourne, with services to Los Angeles and Phuket both launched in December last year. That same month Melbourne Airport also welcomed inaugural flights from Qatar Airways and Viva Macau. The airport now boasts 26 international airlines.

Qatar Airways announced its plans to fly to Brazil and Argentina, spreading its service to the South American continent for the first time. South America’s two largest cities – Sao Paulo in Brazil and the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires – will join the airline’s rapidly growing international network from Doha over the next few months.
In addition, Qatar Airways will phase in capacity increases through additional frequencies and deployment of larger aircraft on selected international routes from the beginning of the Northern Summer 2010 schedules on March 28. These include services from Doha to Geneva, Stockholm, Colombo, Goa, Chennai, Amritsar, Kathmandu, Maldives, Seychelles, Luxor, Shanghai, Guangzhou Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Frontier Airlines announced that it world extend its seasonal service to Anchorage, Alaska, by three weeks and will also reintroduce the popular Saturday daytime flight. The seasonal nonstop service from Denver to Anchorage that begins Friday May 14, 2010, will now operate until October 10, 2010.
Frontier began service to Anchorage in May 2004 and just recently announced service to Fairbanks, its second Alaska destination. Service to Fairbanks will launch on May 14, 2010, and will operate four days a week until September 11, 2010.

TAP Portugal is going to launch new flights from Lisbon to Algiers from June 1, 2010. TAP will operate three flights a week to Algiers on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with 45-seater Embraer aircraft.
The Lisbon – Algiers flights depart at 3:45 pm and arrive at the Algerian capital at 6:05 pm. Return flights depart Algiers at 6:50 pm and arrive in Lisbon at 9:00 pm. TAP also recently announced that it would open a new route to Marrakesh, also starting in June, with three weekly flights operating on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Low cost airline Air Berlin announced that it would be intensifying presence in the Holy Land. From this summer it will operate 9 non-stop flights a week from Germany to Israel. In May a third non-stop flight linking the cities will be added to the existing two direct connections between Tel Aviv and Berlin.
From March 2010 Air Berlin passengers from Cologne and Munich will have a choice of two direct flights a week to Tel Aviv. Two further flights a week from Düsseldorf to Tel Aviv will be included in the schedule from June 2010. Continue to airberlin.com for more details.

Low cost airline AirTran Airways announced new nonstop flights from Des Moines International Airport and Huntsville International Airport. New services connecting Des Moines and Orlando will be available from March 6, 2010 twice a week on Saturdays and Sundays.

Low cost airline Ryanair announced that it would open its 41st base at Malta in May 2010 with one based aircraft and 19 routes (6 of which will be new). Ryanair’s new Maltese base will deliver up to 800,000 passengers per year on over 120 weekly flights as Ryanair invests over $70 million at Malta Airport.
Ryanair will open six new routes from Malta to Billund, Bologna, Krakow, Marseille, Seville and Valencia and these are on sale on ryanair.com.

TAP Portugal announced that it would open a new route to Marrakech in June. New service will be operated 3 times a week on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The company continues to pursue its expansion strategy in Africa, which is the only part of its network to have shown steady growth since 2001.
With the opening of this new route in June, TAP will now cover a network of ten cities in eight African countries, operating a total of 55 flights per week between Portugal and Africa. In Morocco, Marrakech now joins flights from Lisbon to Casablanca, which is currently served by 13 flights a week. TAP flies seven times a week to both Sal and Praia in Cape Verde, and operates the same frequency to Dakar in Senegal.

Singapore Airlines will add new routes serving the Middle East, West Asia and North Asia which will be served with Airbus A330-300 aircraft, featuring the Airline’s latest product and service offerings.
From March 28 or 29 March Singapore Airlines will commence A330-300 services to Abu Dhabi, Jeddah and Kuwait (the latter two points via Abu Dhabi) as well as Male. From April 28, A330-300s will be deployed to Fukuoka and Taipei, and from May 1 the aircraft will serve Colombo. The services will replace the Airline’s Boeing 777 operations on the routes.
