London strike – gridlock at Heathrow

It happened again – the spectre of strike looms over travellers. Passengers flying to or via London Airport (LHR) will probably face major disruptions on Wednesday November 30, 2011 when even as much as 2.6 million public sector employees are due to walk out in protest over pension changes.

The problem for travellers is that among them are UK Border Agency employees. The British authorities are taking measures in order to minimize the impact of the strike by training volunteers and fetching help from other departments.

Hi travellers. In one of our previous posts we pondered over whether to stay over night at the airport or rather choose a hotel. Today we would like to find out if there is any substantial difference between airport hotels and other accommodations and we base our brief survey on Gatwick Airport.

London Airport (LGW) is the second largest international airport in the United Kingdom. It is located slightly over 45 km south of Central London so when having a one-day layover on your trip and choosing a hotel in the down town, take into account an increase of your travel expences by £28.80. Sleeping at the airport or at airport hotels? Read our tips

Have you ever pondered over the following question – should I sleep at the airport or find accommodation at the nearest hotel? The pros and cons of both options are obvious:

  • Hotel: comfort, access to toilet and bathroom and being in better shape the day after at the price of paying a little extra which may make looking for cheap flights pointless.
  • Airport: probably a poor sleep, the danger of being accosted by the staff at some airports and the necessity of looking after your belongings but it also means savings.

And how short is short-term parking? So before you set off to the airport in your vehicle, make yourself acquainted with facts. We decided to use London Heathrow, one of the most popular European airports, as example.

That is a good option for those who simply give somebody a ride or are going to pick up a relative at the airport. Short Stay Parking at Heathrow is available at every terminal, not far away from the entrance. The option can be used for stays ranging from just a sec to 5 hours. Examples of prices are £2.70 for parking up to 30 min or £4.50 for parking 30 – 60 min.
