Emirates and V Australia to start code share agreement

Dubai-based airline, Emirates, and Virgin Blue Group’s new international airline, V Australia, announced a code share partnership on the trans-Tasman route, effective October 25, 2009. The code share agreement – Emirates’ first with an Australian carrier – signals yet another initiative in the airline’s commitment to Australia. It also confirms Emirates as V Australia’s first code share partner.

The new agreement will provide V Australia guests seamless connections when travelling between New Zealand and the USA. Passengers can travel on the Trans-Tasman sector using Emirates’ award-winning service and connect conveniently to/from V Australia’s international service between Sydney and Los Angeles.

Virgin Blue to open new “The Lounge” at Perth Airport

Virgin Blue announced plans to expand the airline’s presence in Perth with an investment in a new 500 square metre “The Lounge” at Perth Airport, which will have seating capacity for over 120 Guests.

The Lounge in Perth will open in December 2009 and will be conveniently located on the ground floor of the Virgin Blue terminal, immediately through the security screening point. It will provide a range of services for both business and leisure travellers, including business facilities for those who want to continue working while they are on the move, as well as a range of options for people who want to sit back and relax by either watching HD plasma TVs, or choosing from a selection of newspapers and magazines.

Virgin Blue: celebration of 9th birthday with Twitter sale

Virgin Blue Airlines is celebrating turning nine years old with $9 seats on sale across a range of routes in the first of what the airline says will be regular ‘Twitter’ sales. The $9 ‘Tweet seats’, priced deliberately at less than a bottle of birthday champagne, will only be available on the Virgin Blue Twitter website .

From 9pm tonight until sold out, Virgin Blue will offer 1000 $9.00 one-way fares for Virgin Blue Twitter fans to snap up across a range of destinations including Canberra – Sydney, Port Macquarie – Sydney, Brisbane – Newcastle and Rockhampton – Brisbane. The fares are for travel from February 2, 2010 to February 27, 2010.

V Australia flies 100,000th guest

Less than seven months since launch Australia’s newest international airline, V Australia, has carried its 100,000th Guest, bringing the Virgin Blue Airline Group’s tally to 100-million Guests since Virgin Blue’s first flight in August 2000.

V Australia’s 100,000th Guest, Mr Noel Palmer from Melbourne, who travelled with his wife Kerry from Sydney to Los Angeles last night, was pleasantly surprised at check-in with a personal greeting from the Airport Manager, access to the business lounge prior to the flight and a complimentary upgrade for two to travel in V Australia’s International Business Class.

Virgin Blue launches flights from Perth to Phuket

Virgin Blue announced that its international airline, Pacific Blue Airlines, will launch direct flights from Perth to Phuket from November 14 as it continues to expand both its domestic and international route network in and out of Western Australia.

The carrier will provide the only direct flights, twice a week from Perth to the popular Thailand resort island of Phuket, which is loved by Australian travellers for all its sensational food, affordable Thai style massages, super shopping, relaxing retreats and vibrant nightlife.

Emirates and Virgin Blue join hands

Emirates and Virgin Blue airlines have teamed up to launch the Emirates Visit Australia Pass allowing unprecedented access Down Under.

The pass offers attractively-priced domestic connections to 22 additional Australian destinations on Virgin Blue from all four Australian cities currently served by Emirates: Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

Virgin Blue awards E-Jet heavy maintenance

Virgin Blue Group of Airlines has announced it has awarded a significant heavy maintenance contact to John Holland Aviation Services in Melbourne.

The contract is for a 10 year period commencing in August this year and will involve JHAS carrying out all heavy maintenance requirements on Virgin Blue’s fleet of EMBRAER jets. The airline currently has 19 E-Jets with that number expected to grow to 23 by end 2011.

Virgin Blue began introducing the brand new Brazilian manufactured aircraft to its fleet in August 2007, to allow the airline to launch Capital Jet services between Sydney and Canberra as well as provide greater fleet flexibility across the route network and the ability to venture further into regional Australia with the right-sized aircraft.

V Australia: fares between LA and Australia from just $359

V Australia continues to shake up the market with the introduction of super cheap one-way tickets between Los Angeles – Sydney and Brisbane offering more flexibility for travelers, which are on sale now.

While one-way fares are not new to the arena, V Australia is the first airline to offer one-way fares across ALL of its fare brackets, including its lowest lead-in fares, offering one-way tickets from just $359, approximately 76% lower than the lowest one-way fare currently offered by competitor airlines.

Virgin Blue to launch flights to Port Hedland

July 1st, 2009

Port Hedland has been earmarked as Virgin Blue’s newest destination, with the airline today announcing plans to begin servicing the West Australian mining community with direct flights from Perth to Port Hedland from August 4, 2009.

The decision to direct an aircraft on to the new route follows enthusiastic campaigning by the local council for Virgin Blue to bring its competitive fares and Virgin style of service to the people of Port Hedland, after the airline successfully began services to neighbouring mining communities Karratha and Newman in October last year.

V Australia and Virgin America sign interline agreement

Virgin Blue’s international airline, V Australia, and US based award winning airline, Virgin America, have signed an Australia-U.S interline agreement offering seamless travel on the networks of each carrier and across the trans-Pacific route.

Both Virgin Blue Group and Virgin America are heralded as being the best in the business, with Virgin Blue taking out numerous awards in recent years, including Best National Airline three years running at the Australian National Travel Industry Awards. In the US market, Virgin America was also named “Best Domestic Airline” in the Condé Nast Traveler 2008 Readers’ Choice Awards and “Best Domestic Airline” in Travel + Leisure 2008 World’s Best Awards.
