Virgin America, carrier with its base in Burlingame (in proximity to San Francisco International Airport), was named the nation’s best airline, according to the Condé Nast Traveler’s readers awards. Singapore Airlines, in the Condé Nast survey, was voted the best airline globally.
Virgin America has captured the award for three consecutive years. The survey reflects the opinions of almost 26,000 of Condé Nast Traveler readers. Virgin America is pushing ahead with an expansion strategy. Earlier this year the airline said it will more than double its fleet and routes with the purchase of 40 new planes, a $3.2 billion order at list price.
The carrier flies to 11 airports, including San Francisco, New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and Las Vegas. It will add Dallas and Los Cabos in December and Cancun Airport starting in January 2011.

California-based airline Virgin America won “Best Business/First Class” among domestic airlines in Conde Nast Traveler’s 2010 Business Travel Poll. The annual survey of the magazine’s business travelers ranked Virgin America as the top U.S. airline for the third consecutive year. To thank its loyal business guests, the airline launched a “Taking Care of Business” two-day fare sale. Fares start from $39 in Main Cabin and $99 in Main Cabin Select, taxes and fees apply. Travel period lasts from September 27, 2010 until December 15, 2010.
In total 25,900 Conde Nast Traveler readers identified as business travelers to rate hotels, airports and airlines on a variety of criteria. Final scores (out of 100) represent the percentage of readers who rated a hotel, airport, or airline “excellent” or “very good.” Virgin America rated an overall score of 89.7 — its two nearest competitors ranked at 82.2 (Midwest) and 68.1 (Continental).

California-based airline Virgin America was selected as the winner of Most Eco-Friendly Airline in the SmarterTravel Editors’ Choice Awards. In addition to this recognition, the airline announces that it has recently completed the LEED certification process for its Burlingame-based headquarters with its landlord Equity Office Partners.
Virgin America has experienced rapid growth since its 2007 launch and the airline currently employs over 1600 teammates and plans to double its teammate base over the next three years. In order to accommodate its growth, Virgin America will expand its presence at its current 555 Airport Boulevard Headquarters location in 2010.

Virgin America announcesd that it would postpone its start of service to Orlando International Airport (MCO) due to delays in the airline’s aircraft delivery schedule. The airline previously announced that it would launch daily nonstop flights from both Los Angeles and San Francisco to MCO beginning August 19, 2010. Due to an unexpected delay in its aircraft delivery schedule, Virgin America will postpone its start of service to MCO until at least October 2010.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this delay has caused to our Orlando guests. Although an unforeseen delay in our aircraft delivery schedule has forced us to postpone our launch date, we still intend to bring our low-fare, award-winning service to Orlando before the end of this year,” said Diana Walke, Vice President of Planning and Sales at Virgin America. “Orlando is an important year-round travel market for us and we look forward to adding the city as a new destination later in 2010.”

Virgin America has announced that it has partnered with V Australia and Virgin Blue to allow each airline’s loyalty program members to earn points when taking flights on the three Virgin-branded airlines.
The partnership means that guests flying on Virgin America, V Australia, and Virgin Blue will all be able to earn credit for their flights that will be redeemable under any of the carrier’s frequent flyer programs. Guests will be now able to earn points on any of the carriers they choose.

Virgin America announced network expansion plans that position the new airline for strong growth in 2010 and beyond. Airline will serve Orlando International Airport (MCO) with daily nonstop flights from both Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) beginning August 19, 2010.
Additionally, the airline announces its intent to serve Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) with daily flights from both LAX and SFO as early as June 2010.
