The national carrier of the UK, British Airways announced it would launch new routes to leisure spots from London City. It concerns both increasing frequency to e.g. Nice, Ibiza or Palma and new routes London City – Faro (as of June 7, 2011) and London City – Malaga (June 8, 2011).

Hi travellers, this time we’d like to investigate into how much stuff you can pack in your bags when flying with the greatest competitor of SAS on the Scandinavian market – Norwegian Air Shuttle.
Carry-on baggage
This carrier allow one item of hand luggage per person. Maximum weight is 10 kg. Maximum dimensions are 55x40x23cm. Each passenger is allowed to bring a maximum of one litre of liquid/cream/gel. Each item cannot be larger than 100 ml and each item must be must be placed in a transparent sealable plastic bag which must be presented for inspection at the security checkpoint.

Some months ago we reported about the ambitions on the part of Norwegian Air Shuttle to enter the long-haul market. This Norwegian carrier has reached the next stage of the process – namely the choice of aircraft.
It has been announced that Norwegian decided to lease 2 new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners for the period of 12 years starting from 2012. The decision was taken for a number of reasons, such as lower fuel consumption and a high standard of passenger comfort.
Incidentally, we wonder if the choice was affected by the fact that Airbus aircraft suffer somewhat tarnished reputation these days following the technical problems which make headlines (e.g. the engine explosion on an Airbus SAS A380 belonging to Qantas Airways).
Regardless of the motivation for this decision, affordable flights connecting e.g. Airport Oslo with the USA are one step closer to reality.

Low cost airline Ryanair, known mainly thanks to its low fares and many weird fees proposals, grows steadily. The airline transported 7.68 million passengers in August. This means this low cost carrier transported more passengers than Air France – KLM.
Europe’s largest low-cost airline (in millions of people transported in 2009) are Ryanair with 66.5, easyJet with 45.2, Air Berlin 27.9, Norwegian 10.7, Vueling 8.2, WizzAir 7.8 and GermanWings 7.2.

SAS Scandinavian Airlines was Europe’s most punctual airline in 2009, and this summer SAS is once again Europe’s most punctual airline. In July, SAS was even the world’s most punctual airline amongst all major airlines. For May, June and July, SAS’ punctuality was superior to any other major airline in Europe.
In July, SAS’ punctuality was 90.35%, resulting in 14,312 of 15,840 flights being on time. In June the punctuality was 90.62% and in May 91.30%. SAS’ punctuality was thereby superior amongst all Europe’s major airlines. Second most punctual major airline in July was KLM with 84.50%. Other airlines included Norwegian (83.25%), Air Berlin (72.58%), Ryanair (69.18%), easyJet (52.45%) or Iberia (45.92%). As the Scandinavian press reports, we can expect a new player on the long haul flight market to emerge within 3-4 years. The new carrier will initially offer flights from Scandinavia to e.g. the United States and gradually widen its route network and thus challenge the position SAS has enjoyed when it comes to long flights from Scandinavia. Behind this daring project is Bjørn Kjos, the CEO of Norwegian Air Shuttle
„I cannot see why we should not be able to offer air fares starting at NOK 2000” he says and adds that we cannot expect all the airfares to be in this price category. „What we need is differentiation. Look at Air Asia, they tried offer flight without business class but it did not work”, he adds and suggests dividing the cabin into classes, a solution that Norwegian has been trying to avoid so far.

Oslo Rygge Airport (known also as Moss Airport, IATA code: RYG) is located near Rygge in south-eastern Norway approximately 60 km from Oslo. Although the airport has only single terminal building it is quite busy thanks to low cost and charter airlines operating their flights to Oslo at this airport (e.g. Ryanair, Norwegian).
The airport is accessible by NSBs regional train, Rygge-Ekspressen and Local Airport Coach – Flybuss Ryggeeven and what is really interesting it is even accessible for pedestrians and cyclists using the pedestrian and bicycle path following the access road to the airport. Passengers can also rent a car via many car rentals (e.g. Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt) or pay for taxi which can be found just outside the terminal building.
