New routes and services – our weekly update

Baggage allowance: KLM

In today’s post of our series looking into the baggage policy of traditional carriers as well as low-cost carriers, we will bring you the baggage allowance of one of the oldest airlines in the world – KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, a carrier with long traditions and hub at Amsterdam Airport. Let us start off with KLM’s cabin baggage allowance.

Carry-on baggage

When travelling in economy class one is permitted to carry on board 1 item of carry-on baggage measuring 55 x 25 x 35 cm or 21.5 x 10 x 13.5 inch (length, weight and hight).

Volcanic ash cloud. Grímsvötn causes first cancellations

History likes to repeat itself. It did not take long after the dust has settled down after the eruption of Eyafjallajökull, before yet another Icelandic volcano woke up and rumbled. Grímsvötn erupted on Saturday and by now the cloud ash has reached Norway and Scotland causing small disruptions there.

The current situation is very unclear and changing. The ash cloud is believed to reach Sweden by Tuesday but the forecast are not always precise – e.g. the Norwegian aviation authorities did not expect the cloud to reach Norway so quickly.

The weekly update on new routes and services

Hi guys. Alas, the Easter holiday is over! Back to the daily business. As usually, we start off with our weekly preview of the latest developments in the world of aviation – new routes, new services as well as other news from the low-cost airlines and traditional carriers.

We begin in Eastern Europe where the Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air has opened its new base in Vilnius. Altogether, the carrier will operate 8 routes from there: VilniusBarcelona, Vilnius London Luton as well as Doncaster, Cork, Milan Bergamo, Rome, Eindhoven and Stockholm.

Unaccompanied baggage rates. Does it pay off?

At any rate, the chances are that you will need to take with you more personal belongings than is the case with shorter getaways. As you might have learnt reading our series on baggage policy, the baggage allowances of various carriers leave us basically with two options – restrict what we take with us and pay less, or pack all the stuff we want consequently burning a hole in the budget. But what if you are compelled to take more than allowed? Are excess baggage fees an unpleasant necessity?

The answer is – it does not have to be this way. Have you ever heard the term «unaccompanied baggage»? All it comes down to is sending your luggage as cargo. The crucial thing is to contact the airlines in question and find out their unaccompanied baggage rates. The rates are calculated based on weight, size and route.

The weekly update on new routes and services

odbavovací hala 3We keep tabs on what is happening in the aviation world and as usually, we start the week with some fresh updates about new routes and services from both low-cost airlines and traditional airlines.

We begin with the Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizzair which, it seems, will finally set up its long-announced operating base in Belgrade in April. Wizzair has also announced it would launch routes Belgrade – Rome, Belgrade – Malmo, Belgrade Stockholm-Skavsta, Belgrade – Eindhoven and Belgrade – Munich-Memmingen.
