The flag carrier of Spain, Iberia, has announced date of the inaugural flight of its new low-cost subdivision. Iberia Express commences flights on March 25, 2012.
Although the establishing of the new low-cost subsidiary is seen upon as a necessary step for Iberia to be able to compete with such low-budget airlines as Vueling, the plans have been vehemently opposed by the airline’s staff.

Christmas holiday is a busy period in air traffic when air travellers are particularly vulnerable both because it is essential to come home on time and because of the precarious weather conditions. An airline strike is the last thing we need.
Unfortunately we are in for a strike. The threat comes from Iberia, a part of the merged holding company with British Airways. Recently flight crew warned they will walk out on strike for two days on December 18 and 29, 2011.

We start off with two new Nordic services from Air Berlin. Firstly, this low-cost carrier provides now a cheaper alternative on the Hamburg – Reykjavik route and engaging in competition with Lufthansa. It has been for announced some time and and now it came true – two widely known traditional carriers British Airways and Iberia has formed a new European carrier group – International Airlines Consolidated Group.
The new carrier group is the fourth largest one after Lufthansa Group, Air France – KLM and Ryanair. This is not to say that the traditional trademarks travellers are so used to, will disappear. Both companies will retain their brand names eve though their stocks are replaced by the group’ stock on the stock exchange.
