easyJet becomes UK’s largest airline

March 16th, 2010

Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) published figures that show that easyJet is the UK’s largest airline, measured by the number of passengers flown for the second year in a row. In 2009 over 28 million passengers flew with easyJet through UK airports, which is significantly more than any other airline.

In just 15 years easyJet has grown from a small two aircraft operation to become the UK’s largest airline, operating out of 16 airports across the UK from Inverness down to Bristol. In addition the airline is making significant headway in Europe. easyJet is now the leading airline at many major European airports such as Milan Malpensa, and is the second largest airline in France and Switzerland. easyJet currently offers over 500 routes across 29 countries with a fleet of nearly 200 aircraft.

Flybe dashes ahead with new pilot recruitment

October 29th, 2009

Flybe, one of Europe’s largest regional airlines and the UK’s number one domestic carrier, has welcomed 16 new pilots from its own sponsored pilot recruitment programme to undergo a familiarisation/induction course for its Q400 fleet, included amongst which are three recruits from the South West.

The intake flies in the face of current global aviation activity where many airlines are shedding rather than hiring pilots as a direct result of the economic climate. Flybe’s programme operates in conjunction with a number of training schools across Europe and demonstrates its commitment to high quality training as it continues to recruit from flight schools that include Flight Training Europe, Jerez, Cabair College of Air Training at Cranfield and Oxford Aviation Academy.
