Flybe: London Gatwick to Leeds Bradford service takes off

June 30th, 2009

Flybe, Europe’s largest and most successful regional airline, today operated the inaugural flight of its new Leeds Bradford to London Gatwick service following red-carpet celebrations that featured an appearance by popular former Emmerdale celeb, Mathew Bose who played the role of barman, Paul Lambert.  Mathew also presented the first passenger who had booked, together with the first Interline passenger travelling, with souvenir magnums of Champagne.

Flybe came to Yorkshire’s rescue on the key route to the Capital following BMI’s decision back in March to axe its service from Leeds Bradford to London Heathrow. Flybe quickly committed to stepping in to operate its own business-friendly schedule that is so crucial to supporting the regional economies of Yorkshire and the Humber.

Flybe to start new services from Gatwick to Leeds

April 21st, 2009

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, announced some great news for Yorkshire and the North with the launch of a new three times daily service from Leeds Bradford to London Gatwick (Schedule below). Following BMI’s decision in March to axe their service from Leeds Bradford to London Heathrow, Flybe is delighted and proud to introduce a business-friendly schedule that will hugely benefit the regional economies of Yorkshire and the Humber, as a result, creating up to 130 jobs for the region and adding 20 direct Flybe jobs at Gatwick.

Responding to widespread business and political disappointment at the removal of the direct air link to London, and the deterioration of rail services to the capital, Flybe – as it did for both Newcastle and Aberdeen in 2009 – has again come to the rescue. Flybe will begin operating the three times a day service from 29th June with fares starting at just £24.99 one way including taxes and charges to be operated on an environmentally efficient, state-of-the-art Bombardier Q400.  Flights can be booked from today at flybe.com.

bmi begins London Heathrow to Kiev flights

March 25th, 2009

This week bmi launches a new five-times weekly service between London Heathrow and the Ukrainian capital, Kiev; in addition to a second daily flight to Tel Aviv. Kiev is a new route for bmi and offers travellers the opportunity to experience a destination with a difference.

Kiev is one of Europe’s lesser known and explored European cities. Just over three hours away from London, the city boasts stunning tree-lined boulevards, chic cafés and boutiques. The city is also home to key cultural attractions including the St Sophia Cathedral, a Byzantium landmark, the architecture and grandeur of which was celebrated in a recent exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Founded in the 5th century as a trading post, little is documented about Kiev’s earliest history.  Kiev is said to derive from the name of Kyi, one of four legendary founders of the city (brothers Kyi, Shchek, Khoryv and sister Lybid).
