Alaska Airlines announced that would inaugurate service from San Jose to Lihue (on the Hawaiian island of Kauai) on March 27, 2011, and from Oakland to Lihue beginning March 28, 2011.
Introductory fares for the new routes start at $179 each way for tickets purchased by July 9, 2010, and travel through May 17, 2011. The new Hawaii flights will be operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The new flights will complement the airline’s existing Hawaii service from San Jose and Oakland to Kahului, Maui, and Kona and new flights from Sacramento to Kahului, which started in March of this year. Alaska Airlines and Horizon offer their customers checking bags retrieving their luggage five minutes sooner through an enhanced baggage service guarantee. The airlines’ new offer gives customers their choice of 2,000 Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles or $20 off a future flight if their luggage is not at baggage claim within 20 minutes after their flight parks at the gate.
Moreover, customers checking bags will be charged $20 for each of the first three checked bags. This represents a $5 increase for the first checked bag, a $5 decrease for the second, and a $30 decrease for the third. Passengers checking two bags will continue to pay the same amount as they did before, while passengers checking three bags will pay $30 less. In addition, the airlines cut the cost of the fourth through 10th checked bag from $100 per bag to $50. Alaska Airlines launched Aircell’s Gogo® Inflight Internet service on six Boeing 737-800 aircraft and plans to expand the service to its entire fleet by the end of 2010. The easy-to-use service will provide passengers with full Internet access on any Wi-Fi-equipped laptop or personal electronic device at speeds similar to wireless mobile broadband services on the ground. By the end of summer, Gogo will be installed on the airline’s fleet of 737-800s and -900s, which represents the majority of Alaska’s fleet.

Alaska Airlines announced that it would add a second nonstop flight between Portland and Hawaii, with year-round, daily service to Honolulu beginning September 20, 2010. The airline already flies between from Portland to Kahului, Maui.
Flights will be available for booking on April 15, 2010, at alaskaair.com or by calling Call Centre. The new flights are operated with fuel-efficient Boeing 737-800 aircraft, accommodating 16 passengers in first class and 141 in the main cabin.
