The competition on the Asian low-cost market is growing healthy to say the least and Qantas Airways newly announced plans to launch two new Asian airlines are just a part of the ever intensifying rivalry.
The recent times have seen a major investment by All Nippon Airways in two low-budget carriers, one of them being a joint-venture with Air Asia and the latter being a new carrier Peach Aviation Ltd. Moreover, AirAsia X opened new routes to Japan as well. Another player present on the Asian market is the Shanghai-based Spring Airlines.

May 3, 2011 marks the day when the biggest Asian low-cost airline AirAsia reintroduces fuel surcharges on all its routes. Initially, this dynamic carrier abolished fuel surcharges in 2008 but now it is said Airasia has no option but to reintroduce it in order to cover the soaring costs of fuel.
The passengers of British Airways have been affected by the increasing oil prices since February –which is when this British airline last increased its surcharges. Now its clients pay from £12 per journey sector on long-haul flights.

Air Asia X, an associate company of AirAsia the most dynamic low-cost airline it the region, expands its route network with a direct service from Airport Kuala Lumpur to Airport Christchurch.
It took two years to develop the project and get finalized this deal which both parts describe as «a win-win situation» for both the entire tourisme industry in the southern part of New Zealand and the carrier. At a rough estimate the new service may bring up to 70,000 tourists a year.
Over time we may expect a constant increase in the number of routes operated by this dynatic Asian carrier. The plans are to launch new services to: New York, Jeddah as well as a few destinations in China.

Two Malaysian carriers – Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia – announced the opening of scheduled flights to Kathmandu Airport from December or early January.
Malaysian Airlines is the national carrier of Malaysia and AirAsia is known as a low cost carrier which recently surpassed the magical number of 100,000,000 passengers.
“More than 7,000 Malaysian tourists visit Nepal every year and the number is expected to double after the two airlines start flying to Nepal.
According to hotel entrepreneurs, Nepal will do well by focusing on regional market as the country does not have direct flights from Europe and the USA.

Some weeks ago we reported about the announcement by the CEO of Norwegian Air Shuttle of starting new, long-haul services connecting Scandinavia and the United States. It seems as though there is still a lot of space for maneuver in the skies as a fresher of a carrier and the long-haul child of AirAsia – AirAsia X is gathering momentum and preparing for expansion.
One of the signs of Air Asia X’s progress which will catch the eye of travellers is the redesigning interiors project which was accomplished in the last few months. The intention is to achieve a more spacious cabin with a colour set suitable for long-distance flights.

Low cost airline AirAsia announced that it would offer the lowest premium flatbed fares. Premium fares from only RM 529 one-way all in can be found on routes from Kuala Lumpur to India, China, Taiwan and Australia.
The promo fare is available for online bookings only until August 1, 2010 for travel between August 2, 2010 and November 15, 2010. Passengers can enjoy premium fares from as low as RM 529 to India (Delhi Airport, Mumbai), from RM 549 to Taiwan, from RM 599 to Chengdu, from RM 699 to Hangzhou and from RM 799 to Tianjin, China. Premium fares for Australian destinations are offered from as low as RM 949 to Perth, RM 1, 499 to Gold Coast and Melbourne. London Stansted will be available from RM 2, 549. Low cost airline Air Asia X announced that it would increase its daily service from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur. The increased frequencies will double the current schedule of seven flights per week to fourteen from the beginning of July.
Other recent positive international announcements for Melbourne Airport have included Qatar Airways increasing capacity to daily and V Australia commencing services to Johannesburg following the success of Los Angeles and Phuket. Additionally, the domestic market has seen Tiger Airways commence services to Brisbane and Jetstar increasing services to Cairns earlier this year.
