Air New Zealand will transform international air travel later this year when it introduces revolutionary, Kiwi designed lie-flat economy and ground breaking premium economy seats, together with enhanced comforts for those wanting the ultimate in luxurious Business Premier travel.
The airline today revealed its prototype designs in a full-scale Boeing 777-300 cabin inside its design innovation centre in Auckland’s CBD, just a few hundred metres from its head office. Chief Executive Officer Rob Fyfe says when the airline takes delivery of its first new Boeing 777-300 ER in November this year it will redefine the long haul travel experience and set a benchmark for competitors to follow.

Air New Zealand has been given another top accolade in a prestigious travel awards. The national carrier was voted second best long-haul leisure airline by Condé Nast Traveller magazine, placing it alongside New Zealand’s ranking as second best destination in the world.
The award follows on from Air New Zealand’s most recent accolade – the Preservation Award in the Condé Nast 2009 World Saver Awards for leading the way in exploring alternate fuel sources.
Air New Zealand’s first Boeing 747-400, registration ZK-NBS, will depart Auckland for the last time today and fly to the USA where it will be dismantled for parts.
The aircraft will depart at 5.20pm and fly to Los Angeles, stopping briefly so crew can clear customs before continuing on to its final destination in Roswell, New Mexico. Read more…
The Chief Executive Board of Star Alliance, of which SAS Scandinavian Airlines is a founding member, has accepted the membership application of Aegean Airlines, the largest airline in Greece. This means SAS soon can offer its customers 28 new destinations in Greece. SAS currently operates 10 flights a week from both Copenhagen and Stockholm, which will connect smoothly to Aegean’s wide network. Aegean’s destinations include the islands of Corfu, Kefalonia, Kos, Mykonos, Rhodes and Santorini, amongst others.
Aegean Airlines has operated for 10 years and operates a fleet of 31 aircraft covering a total of 47 domestic and international routes on 200 daily flights. Specifically 23 routes in Greece are covered, as well as a further 24 international routes. In 2008, Aegean became the largest Greek airline in terms of passenger numbers.
Air New Zealand has introduced the world leading online payment technology POLi to enable its customers to pay for flights directly from their bank account. It can be used to book any flight, including same day travel.
Bruce Parton, Air New Zealand’s Group General Manager Short Haul Airline, says POLi is a great alternative for people without a credit card, or those who don’t wish to use them. “In the current economic climate internet banking is a great payment option if you do not have a credit card, or would prefer not to add to your credit card balance. The process is quick, easy and safe. Customers simply select to pay by internet banking on the ticket purchase page, choose their bank from the list and follow the prompts provided by POLi and the customer’s electronic ticket is issued instantly once payment is complete.”
Air New Zealand is doubling the number of Pacific Premium Economy seats available on its 777-200ER fleet, with the first of eight aircraft re-entering service next week after being refitted at Technical Operations in Auckland.
All aircraft will be completed mid-June, with the number of seats in the cabin increasing from 18 to 36, adding 72,000 Pacific Premium Economy seats annually to the long-haul network. “Pacific Premium Economy has been hugely popular since its introduction in 2005,” says Air New Zealand Group General Manager Long Haul Airline Ed Sims.
