Low cost airlines’ baggage policy: Air One
In today’s article of our series looking into the baggage policy of various low-cost carriers as well as traditional carriers, we will examine the allowances and restrictions as defined by the Milan-based low-cost airline Air One. Air One is Alitalia‘s leisure subsidiary which has operated since 1983. For all you who are about to travel with this carrier but do not understand Italian a summary of Air One’s baggage policy in English.
Carry-on baggage
Passengers are allowed to carry on board one piece of hand luggage not exceeding the following dimensions: length 55 cm, height 25 cm, depth 35 cm. This includes handles, side pockets and wheels. The maximum weight is 8 kg.
In addition, one is permitted to bring such personal belongings as briefcases or laptops as well as crutches, strollers provided there is enough space on board. Otherwise such items are labelled and transported in baggage hold.
Checked baggage
As of March 27, 2011, passengers in economy class called GO have to pay for their checked-in baggage. The check baggage fee is €6 on the internet/via call centre and €15 at the airport. Babies are not entitled to bring any luggage. The weight allowance is 20 kg unless you travel to/from Cairo in which case the maximum weight is 23 kg for adults and 10 kg for babies.
The carrier accepts cardboard boxes as checked baggage, as long as they are labelled, wrapped in cellophane and comply with the maximum size: width 70 cm, height 80 cm, depth 100 cm.
Excess baggage
Should your luggage exceed the limits, be prepared to pay a little bit extra. The charges are as follows:
For each bag, in addition to the first one:
- on the internet/via call centre €25 a piece
- at the airport €35 per piece
For each additional kg over 20 kg:
- on the internet/via call centre €10 per kg
- at the airport €12 per kg
The maximum weight of each checked baggage accompanying the passenger is 32 kg. Boxes, pouches, packs or bags weighing over 32 kg must be shipped as cargo.
