Low cost airlines’ baggage policy: Wizz Air
At the time of writing Christmas is just a few days away and thousands of thousands of travellers are heading home to celebrate this special time. Are you one of them? Will you by any chance travell with the Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air? Let’s find out how many of your possessions you can carry with you.
Carry-on baggage
When it comes to hand-baggage, Wizzair allows its passengers to carry one piece of baggage with the maximum dimensions 55x40x20 and not exceeding 10 kilograms. Apart from that, one is permitted to carry on board the following items:
- coat / blanket
- mobile phone
- reading material for the flight
- for children under the age of twe: food, foldable baby carriage or a small crib
- a pair of crutches for the physically disabled
Needless to say, if your carry-on baggage exceeds the above-mentioned limits, you will have to drop it at the check-in counter.
Checked Baggage
One is allowed to have up to 6 pieces of checked-in hold baggage weighing up to 32 kg each. As for the maximum dimensions, they are as follows: width: 1,499 m, height: 1,194 m, length: 1,715 m. Check-in is not free of charge – it costs €5 /£ 4 or €10/ £8 for respectively online check-in and check-in at the airport per passenger.>
Baggage fees varies depending on where it is paid:
- internet/call centre €15 / £13 per bag
- at the airport €30 / £26 per bag
- at the gate €60 / £52 per bag
One can purchase the 1st three pieces of baggage via internet and the next three ones at the airport.
Slightly different rules apply to passengers on flights operated by Wizz Air Ukraine – the 1st piece of checked baggage is free of charge and the 2nd and 3rd can be purchased on Wizzair website.
Excess Baggage
Unfortunately Wizzair does not define clearly the rules for excess baggage. The carrier states that: «oversized baggage will only be accepted for carriage with a „Limited Release Baggage Tag“» and suggests there being additional costs associated with checking in overweight/oversized bags at the boarding gate.
