Low cost airlines’ baggage policy: Virgin America
We carry on with our series about the luggage policy of different airlines. Let us find out how much we can cram into our bags when travelling with the US-based carrier Virgin America. To begin with, an important piece of information – the rules below are in force for all travel booked on or after February 12, 2010.
As those of you who have travelled with Virgin America know, the cabin on the Virgin America aircrafts is divided into three travel classes – First Class, Main Cabin Select and Main Cabin – with a slightly different set of rules applied to each one.
a) Main Cabin
One can check up to as many as 10 bags, each for a fee of $25. As for the weight, the 1st may weigh up to 70 lb (pounds). For all our readers not accustomed to the imperial units – one pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg. The remaining bags may weigh up to 50 lb and the fee is $25 for each. Now for the size. The maximum size of all checked bags is 62 inches (with one inch being equal 2.54 centimeters). The maximum size is the total of the length, the width and the height.
b) Main Cabin Select
The guests in this class have the privilege of checking one bag up to 70 lb free of charge. The remaining bags – with the same weight limit – may be checked for a fee of $25 each. For the size limitations, please see above.
c) First Class
Like Main Cabin Select guests, First Class guests may check one bag up to 70 lb free of charge and in addition to that one bag up to 50 lbs as well. The regular rules apply both to the remaining bags ( the 3rd to the 10th) and to size.
d) Overweight bags
The rules are as follows:
- the first bag, between 71 and 100 lb – a fee of $100
- Remaining bags – a fee of €50 for the weight between 51 and 70 lb and a fee of $100 for the weight between 71 and 100 lb.
e) Oversized bags
The last matter we would like to take up is oversized luggage. For the weight between 61 and 80 inches prepare $50. Should you exceed the limit of 80 inches, you have got bad luck – your luggage will not be accepted!
That is all for this time dear readers. We do hope you found at least some of info in this article helpful.
