Don’t pay more than you have to!

June 14th, 2010

Hello everybody! We have collected some tips in order to help you avoid paying unnecessary charges when traveling by plane. So first of all – you had better read terms and conditions of carriage. I know, this stuff is pretty boring, so what you can do is to check company’s FAQ and use a common key shortage „ctrl + F“ to find „baggage“, „fees“ and „credit card/debit card“. Congratulations, you should know all the important information about your airline’s fees by now.

Another thing one can do is to bring along just the things that are necessary to you. Mind you, every kg counts when flying! Some airlines (especially low cost airlines) let you take as little as 7 kg. So check the terms and conditions twice before boarding and finding out you have to pay an extra baggage charge. You could end up paying €10 – €15 for every kg overweight!

Another tip is to arrange everything on-line. Book your ticket ON-LINE, pay ON-LINE and check-in ON-LINE. If you want to pay any optional fees – do it ON-LINE! Try to avoid telephone centres as well as it’s really expensive. If you are not sure how to check in on-line read our Tips & tricks: on-line check-in. If you want to go cheap, don’t forget to give up some comfort. Make a list of things you won’t need to buy along with your flight ticket. Do you really need an extra space for legs or speedy boarding?

And the most general rules at the end: book your airline tickets well ahead (or last minute deals). The price of the ticket usually rises when approaching the date of departure. Use services of low cost airlines. Check out the pages of your favourite airline regularly as every carrier usually promotes its current airfare deals at its official pages. Another thing to do to find some good airfare deals is to use services of a free flight finder. Use e.g. MyAirDeals.com or others.
