JetBlue: expansion of service from Boston to the Caribbean
JetBlue Airways, the leading airline at Logan International Airport, with service to more nonstop destinations than any other airline, announces its latest round of expansion plans for its Boston focus city.
Effective May 3, 2010, JetBlue will give a substantial boost to its Caribbean flight schedule, offering Boston travelers 25 percent more departures to cities including Aruba; Cancun, Mexico; Montego Bay, Jamaica; and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
JetBlue’s expanded service to the Caribbean comes on top of its previously announced plans to grow departures from Boston by 30 percent in 2010. With its expanded schedule, JetBlue and its growing base of 1,300 Boston crewmembers will offer travelers more than 70 daily flights to 33 destinations.
Key summer schedule highlights:
* Three additional weekly flights from Bostonto Aruba (for a total of five)
* Two additional weekly flights from Bostonto Cancun (for a total of three)
* One additional weekly flight from Boston to San Juan, Puerto Rico (for a total of 11)
* One additional weekly flight from Boston to Montego Bay, Jamaica (for a total of two)
* Daily flights from Boston to Bermuda (total of 7 weekly)
* Daily flights from Boston to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (total of 7 weekly)
Increased flight frequencies will be available on these routes year-round. JetBlue also offers winter-only nonstop service to Nassau, Bahamas, and to St. Maarten in the Netherlands Antilles. “JetBlue is proud to continue our commitment to Boston by adding even more flights between Logan and the Caribbean next spring,” said Scott Laurence, JetBlue’s vice president of route planning. “Whether it’s summer or winter, JetBlue offers more nonstop flights between Boston and the Caribbean than any other airline. While the other guys continue to cut back on things like routes, service and snacks, JetBlue is pleased to be offering Bostonians more flights and more choice in travel.”
“JetBlue’s growth at Boston is so impressive and we are thrilled the airline continues to place such strong belief in Logan and the Boston market,” said Edward C. Freni, Massport’s Director of Aviation. “This added service to the Caribbean is in addition to the airline’s planned 30 percent increase in its Boston schedule for the summer of 2010. It is not only good news for travelers, but with 1,300 Boston-based crewmembers and more needed to support JetBlue’s continued growth, it is wonderful news for the region.”
All JetBlue flights from Boston are operated aboard spacious full-size jets and include premium amenities like unlimited free snacks and drinks, all-leather seating, the most legroom in coach of any U.S. airline, 36 channels of free DIRECTV programming, more than 100 channels of XM Satellite Radio, free first-run movies on Caribbean flights, plus the convenience of assigned seating and a free first checked bag.
