Get your ski’s on before Christmas with easyJet

November 16th, 2009

Sensational early snowfalls mean the winter sports season has started early and Brits are already checking out the latest ski deals according to low-fares airline easyJet. Pistes have opened early in Austria and there has also been heavy snow across resorts in France, Italy and Switzerland, similar conditions last year led to the best early ski season in a 25 year history.

With dozens of European ski resorts set to open early this year and thousands of ski and snowboard enthusiasts expected to take to the slopes over the festive period, travellers are avidly monitoring the latest weather reports for guidance on where to go for the best conditions.

Alyn Morgan, information manager at the Ski Club of Great Britain, said: “Cold and wintry weather has delivered a lot of snow to Europe recently, falling especially heavy on the eastern side of the Alps in Austria. This is a very exciting start to the season and fingers crossed that temperatures remain low and more snow falls before the season starts in earnest. If you are planning on heading out to the Alps before Christmas then focus on snow sure higher attitude or glacier skiing resorts such as Tignes, Val d’Isere, Les Deux Alpes or Alpe d’Huez in France, Zermatt or Saas Fee in Switzerland, Cervinia or Livigno in Italy or Kaprun, Obergurgl, Ischgl or Saalbach in Austria.”

Paul Simmons, easyJet’s UK general manager, said: “The ski website has already received a positive response from winter sports enthusiasts who are itching to get on the slopes as soon as possible, Geneva is the most popular easyJet destination so far for the early season skiers, as this is where the best snow can be found right now. The snowfall, coupled with low temperatures, will provide perfect conditions for those looking for the ski buzz before Christmas and easyJet predicts that Geneva will continue to be one the most popular ski route for 2009.”
