July 16th, 2009

As an effort in building up a stronger virtual hub in the “lion city”, AirAsia, the “World’s Best Low Cost Airline” by Skytrax, today launches two new flights from Miri and Tawau to Singapore. AirAsia is the first and only low fare airline flying the Singapore – Miri and Singapore – Tawau sectors. The new routes will benefit the immense demands from business & leisure travelers and AirAsia is proud to service the market that is not served before and play such a vital role in increasing traffic, promoting tourism and boosting trade particularly in East Malaysia.

To celebrate the introduction of the new routes, AirAsia will be offering all-in-fare for Tawau- Singapore from RM79(SGD42) and Miri – Singapore from RM59(SGD32). Both flights open for sale from July 14, 2009 to July 19, 2009 for the travel period from September 9, 2009 to April 30, 2009. Promotional seats are limited and available on first-come, first-served basis and made exclusively online via www.airasia.com and mobile.airasia.com

AirAsia’s first connection between East Malaysia and Singapore was from Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, which commenced last November. Other existing routes include Kuala Lumpur- Singapore, Langkawi- Singapore and Penang- Singapore.

Apart from Malaysia, AirAsia currently flies between Singapore and the Indonesian provinces which include Bali (2 daily flights), Jakarta (4 daily flights), Pekanbaru (3 flights weekly), Yogyakarta (1 daily flight) and Bandung (2 daily flights). In addition to that, AirAsia also flies to Bangkok (4 daily flights) and Phuket (1 daily flight) in Thailand. With its vast connectivity around the region, it is noteworthy to highlight that AirAsia has an amazing of 406 total number of weekly flights to and from Singapore.

The two new routes will draw more inbound international tourist traffic arriving from Singapore into Sabah and Sarawak alongside from Kuala Lumpur through AirAsia X’s long haul network bringing in Chinese, Australians and European tourists, who are often interested to explore surrounding cities in the region and these routes will entice them to visit the state for its rich ecotourism activities.

On top of that, passengers can take advantage of the seamless flight connectivity from Kota Kinabalu, AirAsia’s secondary hub after Kuala Lumpur which serves ten domestic routes and six international flights to Brunei, Macau, Jakarta, Shenzhen, Clark and Singapore. These services will strategically place East Malaysia at the forefront of the airline’s vision to stimulate and encourage more travel, enhances connectivity and tap to the international market from the republic’s hub.

Kathleen Tan, Regional Head of Commercial AirAsia, said “We are proud to open-up new market as these sectors are not served. Students, families and foreign workers can now take advantage of our low fares and renew their social ties more frequently or even indulge in leisure holidays to both countries. There are countless attractions in East Malaysia and Singapore as it entails a wonderful journey of discovery into its culture, heritage and adventure. Our recent initiative to remove the administration fee reiterates AirAsia’s commitment to offer big value so everyone can fly following our move to abolish fuel surcharge last year.
