50 airlines will operate regular direct links from Prague Airport during the summer

March 24th, 2009

On Sunday 29.3.2009, operations at Prague Airport will commence according to the new flight timetable for the 2009 summer season. 50 airlines plan to operate direct flights to 127 destinations in 52 countries during the period from the end of March to 24th October. The countries with the greatest number of destinations served from Prague are Great Britain and Italy with eleven, Germany and Russia with nine, and Spain and Greece with seven destinations. The most flights will head to Paris/Charles de Gaulle Airport, Frankfurt, Moscow/Sheremetyevo, Munich and Amsterdam.

The summer flight timetable will bring a number of new features to Prague Airport’s operations. Czech Airlines have prepared two new routes to Central Asia and the expansion of connections to destinations in western and south-eastern Europe, as well as to the Near and Middle East. During the period of validity of the summer flight timetable, Czech Airlines will fly to 70 destinations in 42 countries and will offer flights to a total of 134 destinations in 47 countries in association with the airline’s partner carriers. The company will publish more detailed information on the 2009 summer season during the course of this week.

Wizz Air will substantially expand its flights in association with the establishment of its home base at Prague Airport from June 2009. As well as strengthening existing routes to London/Luton, Rome, Milan/Bergamo and Brussels/Charleroi, which the company has operated since February of this year, Wizz Air will also commence flights to the Paris Beauvais Airport and to Eindhoven. Flights to Naples, Madrid, Malmö, Liverpool and Oslo will be added in July.

Delta Air Lines from America will open a new link to New York on 19.6.2009, which will increase the number of regular connections on this route to 3 per week. In doing so, Delta will follow on from the successful operation of its direct flights from Prague to its home airport in Atlanta.

In comparison with last year, Smart Wings will add new regular seasonal connections to the holiday destinations of Ibiza and Zakinthos.

A new carrier at Prague Airport will be the Italian airline Wind Jet, which will fly twice a week to Forli Airport near Bologna from the beginning of the summer flight timetable.

The summer season traditionally increases the numbers of charter flights in operation at Prague Airport. Charter flights are currently being planned to more than 120 destinations in the summer 2009 season. The most charter flights will head to Hurghada in Egypt, followed by Antalya in Turkey, Djerba in Tunisia, Heraklion on Crete and Burgas in Bulgaria. The most distant charter destinations include Cancun in Mexico, Fortaleza in Brazil, Varadero in Cuba and Phuket in Thailand.
